Our vision for Aussie Rewards is to prosper local communities by prospering local businesses. Along the way, we intend to create a dynamic, inclusive network of local independent businesses supported by and supporting the people of the local communities.
The benefits to the local community from a successful local independent economy can be summarised as follows:
Recycling of business profits in the local economy - local business owners recycle most of their income in the local community simply by living in the community. Multi-national business profits are siphoned off to Head Office or remote owners.
Personal service - local business owners are more likely to give a better service; their contact with customers is work-based and social. Their success is based on "word of mouth" marketing. Multi-national businesses are manned by employees who may not always act in the company's best interest.
Local issues - local businesses are more aware of and more likely to get involved in local issues. They may have children who go to school in the area, parents or grandparents living in the area - all using the public facilities available in the community. They know what their community needs. A multi-national branch is likely to need clearance from Head Offcie to support a local issue.
Local purchases - local independent business owners can decide to buy from local producers, local artists etc and use local tradesmen and professionals who also live in the community. Multi-nationals buying criteria is usually decided at Head Office.
Environmental Implications - a healthy thriving local independent business economy will mean a more self-sufficient economy. We will get more of what we need from within the community. Mult-nationals usually have centrally held stock - more trucks hauling produce across the country.
Local skill levels - a successful independent local businesses infrastructure will generate a community with a more creative, skilful and entrepreneurial labour force. This increases the diversity and variety of training, careers and work. Broadly speaking, multi-nationals offer standard jobs.
Social Implications - by supporting a common cause, (prospering our local communities by prospering local independent trade), the people of the community get to know one another. Generally, we are more ready to help people we know than we are total strangers.
Convenience - the local shop is a place where the elderly and immobile can easily get to when they NEED something. It is a lifeline for these people....
